Thinking of Buying a Bounce House? How Much Do They Cost?

A bounce house is an investment in family fun. They’re awesome for birthdays, neighborhood parties, family reunions, and more. They encourage kids to be physically active outdoors, too. But how much does a bounce house cost? And is there any other equipment you need to buy?

When you really stop to examine the three tiers of inflatables, you quickly realize a vinyl crossover is the best way to go for most families. Commercial inflatables are great for anyone looking to provide bounce house rentals professionally, or for organizations in need of a bouncy castle or two for events. But for a single family, a commercial bounce house is probably overkill.

Having said all that, we’re going to take a look at our vinyl crossover bounce houses, and then we’ll see the commercial bounce houses for sale here at Pogo as well. This should give you a good idea of the general price range you’re looking at for your new bounce house or bouncy castle.

Vinyl Crossovers vs. Commercial Inflatables

For those of you who aren’t familiar with vinyl crossovers and commercial inflatables, let’s do a quick overview.

Commercial bounce houses are designed from top to bottom to withstand the rigors of frequent event and party rentals. They use heavy duty commercial grade materials and their build quality is nothing short of phenomenal. If you’re planning to rent out your bounce house, or if you’re buying one for frequent use (several days per week or even daily), a commercial option is best for you.

Vinyl crossovers are more intended for family use. But they’re crafted with a similar grade of vinyl you’ll find in commercial inflatables, making them significantly tougher than the flimsier options you’ll find in box stores. A vinyl crossover bounce house will outlast those simpler retail bounce houses significantly, at a fraction of the cost of a commercial bounce house.

So how much does a bounce house cost? A vinyl crossover bounce house will cost anywhere from around $750 to over $1500 for a fully featured bounce house slide combo. That may seem pricey, but with proper care a vinyl crossover bounce house will last years. The simpler retail bouncy castles you’ll find in box stores rarely survive a full summer of regular use.

Commercial bounce houses are a lot more expensive; they start at around $1200, and top of the line models cost approximately $3400. Bounce combo units range start at around $2200.

What Equipment Does a Bounce House Need?

Of course, buying a bounce house isn’t usually as simple as just purchasing the inflatable itself. You need stakes to secure it to the ground safely, and an air blower (also known as an air mover) to blow it up and keep it inflated. Luckily, Pogo Bounce House includes stakes and blowers with every bounce house purchase, so it’s ready to use right out of the gate.

What isn’t included, however, are hand trucks or dollies. And bounce houses are pretty heavy—most are hundreds of pounds—so that’s definitely an investment you’ll want to make. A dolly with a base large enough to support inflatables will add another $500 to $700 to your overall cost. You can try to get by without one, but for your safety we cannot recommend attempting that.

Buying at least one heavy duty tarp is also a good idea. Setting out a tarp beneath your bounce house will help protect not only your bounce house, but your grass itself. It also makes cleaning your bounce house considerably easier when the kids are done having their fun for the day. Best of all, tarps are multipurpose; you’re going to find all sorts of applications for your tarp in and around the house when the bounce house is packed away in storage.

The price of a bounce house is pretty reasonable when you consider that owning one saves money versus bounce house rentals. An owned bounce house can be set up as often as you’d like; some customers set them up a few times per week. If you were to rent a bounce house that often, the costs would be astronomical.
